My passion for books formed when I was a kid, I guess it was growing up during the age of the book mobile (remember those?) and the anticipation I felt as I waited word that a book I deeply wanted to check out was available or not. When I received my first library card it was plastic like a credit card and simply having it my wallet made me feel like such an adult.
Looking back that “plastic card” wasn’t about creating debt, but acquiring a wealth of knowledge that could I depend upon to improve the quality of my life any time I wanted.
In my adolescent years I requested to work in the schools library because I wanted to be surrounded by my obsession for knowledge. I was so crazy for library books that I actually loved the smell of them. I remember when I’d come across a title I really wanted to read that I’d get excited when I find the book I was looking for on the shelf.
Fortunately my passion for books has only grown stronger as I’ve gotten older but now instead of checking them out from the library, I’m writing them, but more about that later.
And for as much as I enjoy writing them, I still love reading them and that’s the focus of today’s article. As a mentor to entrepreneurs I’m always looking for new material to not only expand my knowledge, but to pass onto others.
So I’m happy to report that I’ve uncovered a treasure troves of choices for you to add to your summer list. Enjoy!
1. The 100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau
If you only have time to read one of the books I recommend on this list this summer please make it this one. Chris has created something so inspiring that even if you aren’t thinking about starting your own business (or you’re just comfortably employed) you’ll definitely begin to consider the possibility after reading a book that I can only describe as “inspirational”. The $100 Startup is filled with case study, after case study of everyday people just like you and me who for a variety of reasons have embraced entrepreneurship and are thriving.
2. The Millionaire Messenger: Make a Difference and a Fortune Sharing Your Advice by Brendon Burchard
I was already an information publisher when I came across Brendon’s book. But it was the way he teaches positioning that expanded my thinking on the various ways I could leverage my books as foundation to expand my reach and income potential. As a result I’ve created a variety of programs over the last three years (with more in development) most of them based on my original book. Brendon really dives deep and teaches his reader that producing an information product needn’t be this big scary overwhelming monster. All you need is a message and a group of people hungry for the way you provide it.
3. The 4 – Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris
Before Tim Ferris appeared on the scene the term “Lifestyle Design” wasn’t even a part of the working person’s vocabulary. As a matter of fact I don’t believe any of us (under retirement age) ever thought about doing a fraction of the things he suggests like taking mini retirements, or outsourcing activities we don’t like, or testing an idea for a project with a simple online ad. The stand-out for me is Tim’s formula for developing new income streams (like information publishing) that can be automated.
Imagine having money magically appear in your Paypal account while you ski, surf, shop for more books or just hang out with your friends over a four-hour lunch on a Wednesday afternoon, your treat?
Trust me, until you experience the sweet chime of your mobile phone alerting you that you made money for something you created months ago you haven’t really lived.
What I love about all of these books is that they not only teach you how to make more money, but how to do it in a leveraged way thereby providing you with a lot more personal freedom. As a matter of fact, supporting my clients to create more leverage in their businesses is what I specialize in.
So if the books I’ve suggested today have inspired you please add them to your personal library. And you’ve been searching for a way to break away from the Trading Time For Dollars Model I’d like to invite to join me for a FREE teleseminar I’m teaching called, Leveraging Your Expertise For Cash!
