Everyday my private and Discovery Session clients ask me, “Rodney, what’s the fastest way to generate income in my business?” And I always reply, “From the products, programs, and services, in other words (content or stuff) you already have!”
I’ll illustrate my point with a bit of my own story, when I launched my business back in 2009 I started with a simple word press blog where I published weekly articles, tips and recorded interviews with countless experts in the area of business building and marketing strategy. At that time I worked exclusively with professional photographers that wanted to learn how to market their business and make money.
Over the course of about 18 months I produced dozens of articles and recorded interviews with industry insiders within the photographic community. But I had not yet attempted to create, let alone sell an information product. All that changed one day when I attended a tele-seminar with a well know internet marketing guru that talked about re-purposing content.
He spoke about creating information products as well as coaching/consulting programs based on existing content I’d already created. So I went through my archives and quickly realized that I had enough content to produce a number of programs, but at the time I was really attracted to creating a book.
Within a few months I sifted through dozens of my articles and repackaged them into a book that I self published using a print on demand service.
On the day I launched the book I immediately sold copies and over the last two years I’ve sold many, many more copies of that book both in digital as well as in print format.
But that’s not the best part, that book has gone on to produce thousands of dollars of income for my business, and not just book sales! But in private coaching and consulting clients, and online coaching programs.
So the moral of the story?
Stop reinventing the wheel! I’ll bet if you’re reading this article you have a wealth of notes, articles, lesson plans, and if nothing else, client experiences that can be turned into multiple streams of income.
The single fastest way to generate more cash is to create a synergetic match between what you love, your talents, skills and gifts and match them to the desires of the people you currently serve and you hope to serve in the future.
If you’d permit me to dive deeper I’d like to ask you a few coaching questions for you to consider as you “mine” your own personal content library for new opportunities to create additional money from your wealth of expertise.
- What do I have? List your resources, people, equipment, knowledge, and connections.
- Who am I? What are you accomplishments? What have you accomplished that people would love to learn. What are your top 3 insider secrets or tips?
- What does my ideal customer want and how do they want it delivered? Do they want to work with me one-on-one? Do they want classes, workshops or boot camps, private or group retreats? Do they want items shipped directly to their home? Do they want an online forum? Email access? Home study program, etc?
- What can I do to wow my customers and turn them into repeat clients? This is really important so don’t skip this. The deeper you can go, the higher you can elevate the level service to meet and exceed their expectations the easier it will be to charge premium prices.
The answer to these questions contain the seeds to your new offerings, I know it did mine.
