Have you ever been so taken with someone that you’d practically do anything, clear your schedule, travel any distance, even call in sick from work in the hopes of receiving one nugget of their wisdom that you can use in your own life?
Well that’s been my and thousands of fans experience world wide of author, serial entrepreneur, adventurer and World Traveler ~ Chris Guillebeau.
Chris is much more than an inspiration, he’s a touch stone for how I want my business and life to operate in the world. This comes in handy on days when I get a little overwhelmed by the challenges of entrepreneurship.
You see for years I struggled with trying to figure how to merge my passion for travel, and writing with all of my other interests like photography and spending time with really cool people.
Then along comes this innovative young man who burst onto the scene with the introduction of his first book titled, “The Art on Non-Conformity”.
Since publishing AONC he’s gone on to publish a second, titled, “The $100 Startup”.
In it he shares dozens of stories of overworked, underpaid, underemployed and in some instances unemployed or just deeply unsatisfied individuals to take control of their lives and launch their own businesses.
In addition he’s launched a few highly successful information products.
Oh and did I mention that in a little over a month he will have completed a personal ten year mission to travel to every country on this planet?!
Guillebeau introduced the power of “Non-Conformity” and with it a new legion of entrepreneurs emerged.
AONC (the acronym coined for his book) encourages readers to step out of their cubicles and forge into the unknown world of self employment, through sheer will, a lot of creativity and perhaps a dash of orneriness .
To sum it best, the world we want live in may not yet exist, so I guess we’ll just have to go out and create it.
Recently I had the opportunity to interview Chris along with my colleague Debbie Horovitch and 10 handpicked authors on our monthly authors and publishers #SparkleSOS Google Hangout. I’ve made the video cast available with permission of our host.
